What is “Warbirds and Classics Over the Midwest?”

Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest is an annual, three-day event running Thursday to Saturday with open flying on Sunday (Aug 15th - 18th in 2024).   The event is limited to giant scale warbirds, giant scale models of aircraft produced pre-1960, as well as any size TURBINE jet with military markings.  We believe the key to a successful annual event is to focus on the pilots and make it fun for them.  They and their aircraft are what make the event possible.

What are the facilities like?

Wellnitz field is located 5 miles south of Fond du Lac, WI (population 40,000).  The 20-acre site is centered in cornfields and features:

  • On-site parking for over 900 cars and 35+ RV’s
  • 1320 x 250 foot smooth, manicured, grass runway
  • 6 pilot stations
  • Vendor space
  • Professional sound system with full-time announcer
  • 100 by 40 foot tent for airplane storage and pilot relaxation
  • Portable restrooms
  • Lodging accommodations in nearby Fond du Lac
  • Shaded spectator areas
  • Food, water, and soft drinks

This event is sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and adheres to the AMA's safety guidelines. Every effort is being taken to ensure your safety.
